When in Rome, you cannot miss a visit to the smallest country in the world: the Vatican! So let's explore together the Pope’s State, a totally independent country within the city of Rome.
The Vatican is very tiny, but extremely rich in art treasures of all kinds: ancient sculptures, tapestries, frescoes, and much more. The highlight, of course, is the Sistine Chapel, the largest surface ever painted. It is Michelangelo’s masterpiece.
We will also visit St Peter’s basilica (if accessible - it is an active church so, should the Pope have a ceremony, it will be closed to the public, but we usually know in advance if this is happening), the largest church in the world. A glorious structure, it is completely decorated with marble and beautiful mosaics made by local masters that still keep the tradition alive (we have a great school of mosaicists in Rome that is still active).
This is an iconic and quintessential experience when visiting Rome, and it's absolutely not to be missed!
