About
Siena is small, but there is so much to discover! Although I live in Montepulciano, I was born and raised in Siena, so I hope I still count as a genuine local!
This is a classic walking tour where we'll stroll along Siena's iconic streets and squares, marveling at the many architectural masterpieces. But there'd be little point going with a local just to see the highlights, so we'll also dip off into back streets and little alleyways where we'll see more hidden corners and local secrets.
Siena is one of the best preserved medieval cities of the world, a UNESCO world heritage site and perhaps one of few places on earth where a strong feeling of community and deeply held sense of belonging are still alive.
Although Siena is now just a small (lovely) city, it was once a place of great importance and power, and this can be seen and felt all throughout. As we explore, we'll talk about history, art, tradition, the famous Palio horse race, and the 17 Contrade (districts) that have been an integral part of the city's fabric since the 1300s.
We'll, of course, visit the stunning and world famous Duomo cathedral and the iconic Piazza del Campo main square.
We'll finish the tour with a nice tasting of traditional cakes and sweets, all produced locally (panforte, ricciarelli, cantucci, panpepato, etc.).
