This full-day tour will see us setting off into southwestern Sicily, a less-known and little-explored part of my island. A rural and agricultural area, you'll find olive groves and vineyards all around, and in fact, some of Sicily's top wines and olive oils are produced in this region. We'll have a chance to sample both of those today.
But first, we'll pay a visit to ancient Selinunte, an incredible archaeological area that dates back to the time of the Greeks. I think it's actually quite fair to compare Selinunte to Pompeii, which should give you an idea as to the extensiveness of the site. It's widely regarded as one of the most impressive archaeological complexes in the Mediterranean!
We'll spend around 1.5 hours exploring Selinunte, and will then head over to a nearby winery to sample some of the local wines. We'll also have a leisurely lunch at the winery, and will have the chance to taste some local olive oil as well.
After lunch, we'll head back to the Palermo area and I'll drop you off at your accommodation.
Sicily is a wine lover’s dream, producing amazing wines from both local and international grapes. You’ll find everything from rich reds to bright, mineral-infused whites. And when you pair them with the fantastic local food, you’ll see why this is such a paradise for wine and food enthusiasts. Included is a wine lunch at a local winery where you can sample some wines combined with local cuisine. Additionally, you will gain insights into the local grape varieties and taste the excellent olive oil of this area.
