This tour combines a guided walk through Florence's historic center with a visit to either the Accademia Museum or Uffizi Gallery. I think it's the perfect introduction to this city for anyone who wants to see the historic streets, churches, and monuments, along with some of the greatest art anywhere in the world!
How we structure the tour is up to you, and we can visit the Accademia/Uffizi first and then tour the city after, or do the reverse of that. Either way, we'll generally split the time evenly between the city tour and the museum/gallery visit. But as always, the plan is flexible!
Here's a quick look at what we'll see and do:
Accademia Museum or Uffizi Gallery visit: This visit can be done at the start or end of the tour, and which one we go to is entirely up to you. If you opt for the Accademia, our visit will last about 1 hour, whereas the Uffizi tour is approximately 2 hours. During our time in either, I'll show you a highly curated selection of the finest and most interesting pieces in their collections.
City center walking tour: We begin our walk at the Piazza del Duomo, Florence's main square. There, we'll admire the towering Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (from the outside) and will take a look at the Baptistry, with its gilded bronze doors.
Next, we'll wander through the charming streets of the centro storico until we reach the Piazza della Signoria, another of the city's most impressive squares. Here, we'll have a look at the statues and gorgeous buildings, including the Palazzo Vecchio, Florence's city hall.
Right nearby, we have another marvel still to come: the Church of Santa Croce, the final resting place of Michelangelo and Galileo. The church also boasts one of the finest art collections in the city and its two adjacent chapels are decorated with stunning frescoes by Giotto. So we'll head inside to have a look and learn more about its long history.
Note: When booking the tour, please just let me know whether you'd like to visit the Accademia or Uffizi Gallery.
