About
Orvieto, at the border between Umbria, Lazio, and Tuscany, and right on the road from Florence to Rome, has been a place of great importance for centuries. With Etruscan origins, medieval masterpieces, Renaissance marvels, and an astonishing cathedral filled with works by renowned artists, this ancient town is a treasure trove of architecture and art.
Our walk through the city will start at the Duomo where we'll being by looking at the amazing facade and discussing the meaning and significance of the artwork. We'll then enter the church where we'll dive even deeper into the amazing works of art within. Typically, we dedicate about one hour to the church.
Back outside, we'll set off to explore charming Orvieto's center. I'll show you the town's main squares, streets, and monuments (as well as some great viewpoints). We can also visit the imposing Fortress and it's "mysterious" well.
Many visitors don't know this, but Orvieto's local wines are also highly prized and the city is lauded as having some of the best food in the country. So we can stop for an impromptu wine tasting and try some local specialties too.
