Paestum, known as Poseidonia (after the Greek god Poseidon) when it was founded by the Greeks at the end of the 7th century BC, is now one of the best preserved cities from the times of Greek colonization.
Our tour will be divided in two parts: first the archaeological area, and then a visit to the National Museum.
During the visit of the archeological area, we'll discover the evolution of this ancient city as it passed from the Greeks to to the Romans, and learn its history told through its ruins and temples dedicated to Athena, Hera, Apollo and Zeus. We'll also explore the Roman Forum and the Roman residential area.
In the National Museum, we'll learn about the stone frieze that decorated the temple of Hera, artifacts produced as offerings for gods, armor and weapons of Roman warriors, and the painting tombs.
Between the ruins and the museum, this is the complete introduction to this fabulous archaeological wonder!
