This is a tour for fans of the book and tv series "Inspector Montalbano". I grew up in the area the series is set and am a super fan myself, so especially enjoy this tour!
But before I describe the day, let's be up front - while I'd like to tell you that you'll enjoy this tour even if you didn't read the books or watch the show, you'd probably do better choosing my "Towns of the Val di Noto" tour which visits many of the same locations, but without the emphasis on the tv filming locations.
But back to the tour! We'll spend the day exploring the Val di Noto region, including the towns of Ragusa, Modica, and Noto, while visiting many iconic locations depicted in the tv show (and book). Part of the beauty of this tour is that we'll visit some of the region's iconic towns while also getting far off the beaten path and stopping by tiny villages and little-visited countryside.
We'll stop by the beach where the inspector goes for his long swims and walk through the countryside and cities that serve as settings and filming locations.
We'll also see Montalbano's house in Punta Secca, near the small town of Santa Croce Camerina. Then we will move to Donnafugata castle, where Don Balduccio Sinagra lives.
Next stop is Ragusa Ibla, a city that is often used to represent the imaginary town of Vigata in the drama. Here, we visit Piazza Duomo, the Hyblaean gardens, St. George's gate, St. Joseph's Church, and Piazza Pola. Afterwards, we will get to know Modica, before wrapping up the day in Scicli, where we can visit the famous Police station.
Throughout the tour, my goal is, of course, to show you the iconic locations of the series, but also to help you see and experience the unique slice of Sicily that Camilleri (the author) invokes and transmits, and that you're sure to know if you've seen the show.
