Let's spend a day together exploring the gorgeous Val di Noto region of southeastern Sicily, home to some of the island's most stunning Baroque towns.
In 1693, a massive earthquake struck this corner of Sicily, wreaking havoc throughout the land and decimating cities. But from this disaster we rebuilt, and in glorious style. The towns of this UNESCO-recognized region are some of the finest examples of late Sicilian Baroque, a unique and beautiful architectural style.
Our tour will visit 3 of the most charming towns and cities: Noto, Ragusa Ibla, and Modica. We'll meander through the towns together, admiring their architecture, visiting their iconic churches, palaces, and monuments, stopping for panoramic views, and dipping down quiet alleys and empty side streets to find gems hiding just out of site.
In Ragusa Ibla's historic center offers a glimpse of Sicily that is now almost impossible to find elsewhere and walking through the streets leading to Piazza Duomo is like diving into the past. While here, we'll admire the gate of San Giorgio, the beautiful Iblei gardens, Piazza Pola square with the beautiful facade of San Giuseppe church, and the splendid Piazza Duomo.
Next, we visit Modica, a town that lies between two quarries on the bed of a river, buried in the last century. It is a Baroque pearl known not only for its architecture, but also for having given birth to Salvatore Quasimodo, a Nobel laureate poet. We'll be sure to sample the famous local chocolate and some sweets before leaving.
Our final stop is Noto, one of Sicily's most beautiful towns and an almost impossible romantic place.
We'll have time for a final chat as we drive back to your hotel at the end of the day.
Transportation is always done in a luxurious Mercedes van or sedan, with me as both your driver and expert local guide.
