About
Probably the most intense and thrilling experience that you can have on Mount Etna, the hike to the summit craters - standing at 3,300 meters of elevation - is something you'll never forget. I guarantee it!
A truly unique adventure, this excursion will take us not only to Etna's highest point, but it will also give us the opportunity to walk along the volcano's active craters. No matter how many times I make my way up there, I still find it thrilling and exhilarating.
Here's the plan: after picking you up at your accommodation, we'll make the drive to the Piano Provenzana area on Etna's north slope. This is one of the most beautiful and rugged parts of the volcano and also one of it's less-touristy sections.
At Piano Provenzano, we'll leave our car behind and will hop aboard the 4x4 vehicles on-site. Over the next 30 minutes, we'll ascend from 1,800 to 2,900 meters.
And this is where the real adventure begins: we'll now set off on foot for a fairly grueling 2-hour hike to the volcano's summit at 3,300 meters. We typically spend around 45 minutes at the summit, depending on volcanic activity and weather conditions.
Once it's time to make our way back down, we'll have another 2 hours or so of hiking ahead of us. Along the way, we'll stop off at a panoramic viewpoint for a well-earned picnic. We'll then return to the 4x4 vehicles which will take us back down to the car at Piano Provenzana.
After a spectacular but long and challenging day, you can then relax as I drive us back to your accommodation.
Please note: This experience requires good physical condition and proper equipment: warm layered clothing, a windproof jacket, and hiking shoes (all equipment can be rented on site if you don't have anything).
