Valley of the Temples and Scala dei Turchi Cliffs

Located in south-central Sicily about a 2-hour drive from Palermo, the Valley of the Temples is widely considered to hold the best preserved Greek temple anywhere outside of Greece, making it a simply unmissable site for any visitor to Sicily.
And don't just take my word for it: known as “Akragas” in ancient times (which is where the name Agrigento comes from), the temple complex and surrounding settlement were regarded by the Greek poet Pindaro as “the most beautiful among mortal cities.”
To get there, we'll enjoy a scenic drive south through inland Sicily, cruising along the Sicani Mountains for most of the way.
Upon arrival, we'll go for a pleasant walk through the Valley of Temples, touring its incredible sites and learning about its history. This is the largest archaeological site in Europe, and its many different areas are connect by an approximately 1.5 mile path. A true testament to the grandeur of the ancient Greeks, these remarkable 5th-century BC ruins perfectly showcase the architectural brilliance of the Doric style.
Once we've finished touring the site, we'll break for lunch (I'll be happy to make recommendations for great spots to try). Afterwards, we have two options: we can either go for a walk around Agrigento's pleasant city center or we can make a quick visit to the nearby Scala dei Turchi Cliffs, one of Sicily’s most iconic landmarks and a very popular beach destination as well.
From the Scala Dei Turchi or Agrigento, it's time to return to Palermo, so we'll jump back in the car and begin the 2-hour drive back.
